Accessible Parking

Accessible Parking refers to designated parking spaces designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities, ensuring safe and convenient access to buildings and facilities. Key features include:

  • Wider spaces (at least 2m 44 cms (96′) wide) for wheelchair ramps and transfers.
  • Proximity to entrances with level pathways free of obstacles.
  • Clear signage with the International Symbol of Accessibility and high-contrast lettering.
  • Van-accessible spaces with additional width (3 m 35 cms (132″)) and vertical clearance (2m 50 cms (98 “)).

Governed by standards like the Equality Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and local building codes, accessible parking ensures compliance with legal requirements and promotes inclusivity. These spaces benefit wheelchair users, individuals with mobility impairments, and those with temporary disabilities, reducing barriers to independent access. Proper enforcement prevents misuse and ensures availability for those who need them.
